Welcome to Lane's House Of Old Fashion Large German Shepherd Dogs. I do not breed for the Conformation show ring or the German Schutzhund ring. I breed Old Fashion Large German Shepherds for family companions.Our dogs are big. Dogs exceeding 30" at the withers, and well over 100 pounds in weight. They are "straight backed", in reference to the excessive slope of some American show dogs and the roaching of some German show dogs.They are called Old Fashioned Large German Shepherds.

All my dogs are family pets. I like calm but energetic dogs with no hind end slope, straight top lines (backs), tight round feet, with large heads, heavy bones, and tall frames very good in obedience.
Yes my dogs are often large, but size should never be a factor over soundness. OFA certified hips are of great importance. The new style German Shepherd is dying much sooner then Shepherds from just 20 years ago. I am committed to keeping lines that average 12 to 14 years of longevity. The diet we feed our dogs consists of a good quailty dog food.

A well-bred German Shepherd is a remarkable dog, but a German Shepherd dog from a disreputable breeder, accidental breeding, or someone trying to recoup their initial investment, can be a nightmare. Without careful consideration of genetic issues, temperament, and physical characteristics, the resulting litter can be plagued with serious health and temperament problems. I do research on the family history of my German Shepherd dogs before they enter my breeding program. I also try and educate my buyers so that they are aware of the needs of the breed, as well as their own Old Fashioned Large German Shepherd.
